The Reading & Northern Passenger Fleet

COACHES

The Reading and Northern excursion train consists of 1920’s era coaches with conventional seats, electric lights, and large clear windows which can be raised for ventilation. (This type car is often referred to as an “open-window-coach.”) Seating capacity: 72 per coach. Cars are heated, but not air-conditioned. Each coach has a restroom with a camper-style toilet. There is no smoking or use of tobacco products on R&N RR properties. Note: coach seats not assigned at time of purchase.

PULLMAN

On certain trips, we also offer seating in The Lehigh Gorge, our heavyweight 1927 Pullman car. Rooms are sold as a higher priced "premium service,” which includes a snack and beverage service. Pullman rooms are pre-assigned.

MOTIVE POWER

We sometimes use large, high-horsepower diesel locomotives from our daily fleet.
The newly-rebuilt Steam Locomotive No. 425 is also used on occasion.

Steam locomotive 2102 is currently not in service, and there are no current plans for this historic and popular engine. The Budd R-D-Cs are currently not in service, and there are no current plans for these cars. We will, however, post the news on our web site, if-and-when any of this equipment is restored to service.
